Benefits of waxing
- It lasts weeks, not days: wax removes hair from the root, so you won't need it again for 3 to 5 weeks.
- Hair grows back finer and sparser over time, and every session gets easier.
- Smoother skin: removing the wax also takes away the surface layer of dead skin cells.
- No shadow or stubble: none of the regrowth that appears two days after shaving.
- Quick: underarms or brows take about 15 minutes; full legs about 30.
How often should you wax?
Usually every 3–4 weeks, and legs can last up to 3–5 weeks. The key is not to rush it: if the hair is too short, the wax can't grip it properly and results don't last as long.
Before your appointment
- Let hair grow to about 5 mm, that is, 2–3 weeks without waxing or shaving.
- Exfoliate 1–2 days before, never on the same day, so your skin isn't sensitive.
- Come with clean skin and no creams on the area.
- For bikini waxing, cotton underwear is best that day.
- For brows, let them grow for 3–4 weeks and bring a photo if you have a shape in mind.
After waxing
- Avoid sun, beach, pool and sauna for the next 24 hours. The temptation is big here: save Las Canteras for the next day.
- For underarms, wait a few hours before using deodorant and choose an alcohol-free one for the following days.
- Moisturise daily and exfoliate gently once a week to prevent ingrown hairs.
- Avoid very tight clothing on waxed areas the same day.
Waxing myths
“Waxing makes hair grow back thicker.” It's the opposite: with regular sessions hair tends to grow back finer and sparser. “It really hurts.” You notice it more the first few times; with regular sessions and the right hair length, it gets easier and quicker every time.
